When I first crossed over the bridge to the first island I noticed a shipyard. Three years ago I did a similar drive further north and found a shipyard and was amazed at how close you could get. It is Saturday here and I was surprised to hear noises coming from the shipyard so decided to go over for a bit. You could smell the fresh paint. It was a fun after noon.

I spent two years in the shipyard with my submarine. I love seeing what is going on in them now that I am not working there every day!!

Yeah, I can imagine, big difference between being "in" and being "out". It amazes me how big these ships are.

And how small they seem once out to sea!

Today I went to see Oyama. Oyama I have no history with except that I have gone their two times and come away empty handed. It was because he never wanted to sell me what I wanted and it wasn't because it was sold either. A little bit odd but I never really thought much of it.

Oyama has been experimenting with Kawarimono for years but, in the last couple of years, he started to produce quite a bit. I am always on the search for something new and interesting so I asked a friend to take me there.

I have developed relationships with four breeders, in Southern Japan, that allow me to make contact and set up appointments on my own. Those are Tamaura, Taniguchi, Omosako and Matsue. There are other breeders I have been to, like Momotaro and Sakai Co. limited, but don't really have that kind of relationship. Oyama is the same, even though I have been there before, I have never purchased anything so I really can't just contact him to make an appointment.

Many of you know of Mike Snaden. Mike has been living in Japan for many years now and is married and has started a family. Mike and I have developed a friendship over the years, keep in contact, and I always try to see him while I am in Southern Japan. Mike set up my appointment with Oyama.

Oyama Koi farm is in the hills up around where Tamaura is and SFF.
