Hi JD Wood,

First of all big congrats on the fishes. Every one of those seem to have done good and improved. Hats off to your koi keeping skills.

If you don't mind, could you kindly let me know your pond size, filtration setup, Feeding regime and maintenance regime. It is strictly for my own education purpose. I just want to know from a person who actually exhibited the skills rather than self-proclaimed experts.

Thank you.

Thank you Jonathan.

The pond is about 12,500, and I do about 12000 GPH through a Blue-eco RDF to 2 home made showers with a mix of Bakki House and Cermedia (as cermedia degrades, I replace with it with the bakki house- the cremedia is slowly degrading. Three 4 inch bottom drains with aeration above each drain and 2 skimmers. I use a drop-in periha UV in the Blue-Eco. You can see the build in detail at these two links:

Maintenance consists of cleaning out the skimmer baskets as needed (I modified the basket so it does not clog easily- the main function is to keep fish from going down the 4 inch pipes), and cleaning the RDF collection tray every few days.

I try to do a 10 percent water change at least 2X per month- but I also set the RDF to cycle every 7-10 minutes to get a 200 GPD "flow through". This works out to about 10 % water change per week.

We feed the fish about 4-6 times per day, with heaviest feeding August through September - JPD food.

One last note- you cannot ignore the fact that the fish you start with are a critical factor- and Russ sells [nice fish] SIMPLY THE BEST!

(oops - edit to correct the type fish Russ sells)
