PSKoi - Walnut CA Pond Build
Several months ago I started with the first meeting on this project. It was decided, because of the size and scope of the project, that a local contractor would do the bulk of the work as well as design the over all lay out of the pond. I would design, and install, the plumbing and filtration systems. It has 8 bottom drains, 4 skimmers, two Red Label 75/100 RDF's, 6 pumps, two air pumps and a Levolor system. This plan is the general over view.

Re: PSKoi - Walnut CA Pond Build
The project started while I was on my buying trip in Japan and my second visit to the site had the hole dug and ready for plumbing. I met with the foreman of the construction company and gave them a couple of options. It seems they started before I was notified. They could wait a month or I could lay out all of the plumbing for them, and after sending me pictures, I would give the approval for the pour. They did a great job on the plumbing.

The gunnite was done a few days ago and I am flying out to California tomorrow for the next phase of my work. The layout of the filter pit. The pond should end up being about 32,000 gallons.

Day 1 - I went back, couple of weeks a go, for four days to get the filter pit set up. Quite a bit of work has been done.

This pond is not going to be your typical Koi pond. The column has been set for an in pond water feature. You can also see that, since this area is cut off from the main part of the pond, it has it's own skimmer and bottom drain.

The designer of the pond went all out. There is a pathway that goes from the back of the house, across the pond, and to a deck that over hangs the pond by about six feet.

The deck has a wall behind it that is going to be an outdoor movie theater.

The biological filtration will be two large Stainless Steel showers filled with Bakki Media. It was decided that they want to disguise the showers so, this shower, is getting set back from the pond a ways so that a trellis can be built around it. They are going to fabricate a SS weir and weld it on the existing weir.

Re: PSKoi - Walnut CA Pond Build
During my last meeting here I discovered that the plumbing for the RDF's was a little bit high so I asked them to lower it 4" but to keep the spacing between the pipes as it was set up to go right into the RDF. With the spacing four of the pipes were a straight shot and two of them would go in, at a higher lever with a single 45 degree fitting. The pipes did not end up with the same spacing, after the move so, even though it isn't pretty, I was able to get them hooked up. I am using two Red Label 75/100 RDF's.
