(10) Before completing your work check to see you have not missed any, and there are no more raised scales that require treatment.

Step 11

(11) Put the fish back in a smaller recovery container with water. Of course, once the anesthetic wears off, double check the fish and your work prior to releasing it to the pond.

This procedure is not a difficult one to perform and it can stop ulcers from developing if done properly. These lifted scales contain fluid from a bacterial infection that will enter the tissue under the scales if left unattended. This will lead to ulceration, tissue damage and scale loss. Notice that the Koi was put on newspaper. This is because it offers a soft, non slip surface for working on the Koi. Plastic bags are very slippery and will result in a lot of movement when trying to work on a Koi in this manner. Using newspaper will not result in a high loss of slime coat or cause any irreparable damage.

Very nice piece of info there but picture on step 7 did not come out clear, could you repost that one thanks in advance.

I am afraid that reposting it will not make a difference but it looks fairly clear to me. I can even expand it to get more detail.
