I called myself doing a great deal of research on Goshiki, but my eye could always use more training so I totally understand. Buying from Russ has its obvious advantages :d but I have a few things I read to look for when considering Goshiki as tosai.

A lot of the threads in the education section have useful info, and sure enough, my top two picks of the lot were snapped up lol.

Keep an eye out on my sales threads. Chagoi may not happen though. You sent me a message earlier that mentioned Shiro Utsuri and Tancho Showa. I did find Shiro Utsuri yesterday but have not posted them yet. Actually there are a few Shiro Utsuri in the Ikarashi sales thread.

I am a day behind with my postings but it has been because we have spent really long hours Tosai hunting. Yesterday, for example, I left the hotel at 7:30am and we finished our last stop at Kobayashi at 7:30pm. Those are long days here and pretty unusual. Normally we will finish by 3:30-4:00pm and then I can go back to the hotel and start processing all of the info and prepping pictures. Don't get me wrong, I am thrilled with what I am finding, it has just be hard to get it all done and posted. Yesterday I went to Murata, Sekiguchi and Kobayashi.

It has been snowing a lot, a lot more than I ever remember, and every morning I have to dig out from the snow. It is actually getting harder each day.

It makes the drive through town a little more interesting too. Each day I have been having to leave earlier.

Our first stop was to see Murata. Murata is one of my favorite Kohaku breeders and he is about 40 minutes from the Ojiya area. He and his wife have such a passion for what they do and it is always a pleasure to be around them. They are good people. Murata apprenticed at Matsue Koi Farm and Matsue developed the Sensuke bloodline so it is what Murata uses. He has very strong bodies and very large parent Koi. We started with Tosai in their new greenhouse.

I ended up buying the whole tank of Tosai but I am going to hold back on selling some of them. When I asked about buying them all Murata wanted to pull out the best of the group to show me which ones he liked best. I noticed right away that the Beni had good color, and sheen, but it looked like some of it was separating. Murata seemed very excited about what he was showing me but what I saw was unusual. I had to run the risk of insulting him by saying something just to make sure. He was actually happy to talk about it. He said that the Beni wasn't diminishing but, rather, it hadn't 'set' yet and would continue to get stronger. I haven't seen this before with other breeders, but I had noticed it on his Tosai in the past, and I just passed over those without asking or buying them. Kobayashi and Omosako have a similar occurrence with a type of Sumi they have. It actually grows on the surface and works it's way in and looks much the same as this. I am going to hold back on these Tosai because I want to watch them develop and just make sure. This is a picture of the type of Kobayashi Sumi I am talking about.
