Tri_State ZNA Koi Show - PSKoi

Postby Russell Peters » July 5th, 2017, 8:32 pm

I will be going to the New York Show, in about three weeks, and have been looking at Koi possibilities for about a week now. This is the main tank that has Koi from 12" to 31". I don't think I will be bringing out any of the larger girls but they have the potential for a "fire sale" at the NMZNA Show in the middle of September. Some of the 12" Jumbo Tosai may make it to the New York show and, if the do, will be discounted.

This tank has about 200 Tosai in it from 6" to 11" and I will definitely be bringing a group of these.

I was able to take some still pictures in this tank. Notice the Shiro Utsuri Tosai in here. These were the ones that no one picked because they did not have Sumi up yet. They were largely white. When I picked these I noticed they had better sheen, and a 'blue' tone, so I asked Omosako about them. He said that these usually turn out to be the best.

The best ones are often the leftovers.

What's the story on that large kohaku? The quality is outstanding.

The Kohaku is one of my first purchases from Matsue. I bought a very high quality Nisai and was growing it out. It arrived in my November shipment very unexpectedly and I have had it here for 7 months. I was not planning on shipping it back. Now that it is here I have to deal with moving it or selling it.

Not surprising it is a Matsue. The porcelain skin caught my attention. Then I noticed how thick the beni is.

Its crazy because most of the Matsue koi i see available elsewhere over the years have had wonky bodies and/or bulging eyes. I went a very long time thinking I did not care for his fish but then I started to see prime examples of what gets produced at that farm, like this koi, and im shocked at how beautiful and youthful his big fish are.
