PSKoi is owned and operated by Kari & Russell Peters. Our retail store is located in Martinez, CA - in the San Francisco Bay Area.
PSKoi Business Practices
We own and operate our Retail and Online stores ourselves, and we take pride in the way we do business. We believe in providing high quality Japanese Koi in a variety of sizes at very reasonable prices.
When we import our fish from Japan, we employ a strong quarantine process of placing each Breeders Koi in separate quarantine systems, heating them to 74 degrees Fahrenheit for a minimum of 2 weeks, and scrape the fish for parasites.
We carry products that we ourselves have used and believe work well, and we order specialty products for our customers when they request them. We do not allow returns on Koi or on items that we do not normally carry in our store, also known as 'Specialty Items'.
We believe our customers deserve respect and should be treated well, and we do our best to accommodate everyone.
Travel to Japan
We travel to Japan on buying trips from October through March of each year, and we focus on 2 regions on the island of Honshu.
In Isawa, we work directly with Mr. Toshio Sakai, of Isawa Nishikigoi Center (INC), and bring his amazing fish to our US Customers. Mr. Sakai is famous for developing the Matsunosuke blood line, and he produces the highest quality nishikigoi available in the world. His Koi have won the prize of Grand Champion of the All Japan Koi Show many times, and his knowledge of nishikigoi is second to none. Mr. Sakai generously shares his knowledge and teaches at Seminars throughout the world.
We also travel to the Niigata Prefecture, visiting breeders in Ojiya, Mushigame, and Yamakoshi. We are fortunate to buy fish from Torazo, Yamamatsu, Hosokai, Hiroi, and Yagozen (to name a few...), and we have all of the Koi from this region shipped to us by Tsuyoshi Kawakami of Urakawa Koi Farm, breeder of the famous Torazo blood line that has won the All Japan Koi Show in Tokyo.
